How to Tell If Your Dog Has Canine Arthritis

Do you know if Your dog suffers with Joint Pain? Here are some of the symptoms:

* He is licking affected joints
* Falls behind on walks
* Reduction in muscle tone/bulk
* Mild swelling/heat in the joints
* Slight Stiffness on rising/lying down
* Somewhat reluctant to climb stairs

Once boisterous and full of energy, your dog may now seem to slow down, have some difficulty walking due to hip pain, tire easily or seem less exuberant or even restless-and seeing them in pain makes you feel helpless.

One of the most common dog health problems is dog hip pain. Healthy dogs and cats usually love to run and play; but if your pet suffers from joint pain, it can start a vicious cycle. They no longer feel much like moving…and the less they move their joints, the stiffer and more painful they become. Continued exercise is important for joint health and a dog joint supplement can help naturally relieve the discomfort that puts your pet on the sidelines so he or she feels more like getting up and around-and back to enjoying life!

Many dog owners want to treat their dogs hip pain by giving them Glucosamine for dogs. It is the only dog arthritis treatment they know. However it is only one alternative and while dog Glucosamine is not dangerous, by itself it not the most effective arthritis treatment for dogs.

Homeopathy is a very unique system of medicine because the ingredients are used at levels generally understood to be non-toxic, with no negative side effects. The use of homeopathic ingredients for particular conditions is based on homeopathic studies that are recorded in the Homeopathic Medical Material.

This all natural joint treatment alternative to Glucosamine for dogs would be a much healthier and more effective choice for relieving your dog’s joint pain. You can alleviate many of your dog health problems and ensure your dog or cat enjoy a much healthier, more productive life naturally by maintaining a healthy lifestyle of exercise and proper nutrition for weight management–and by incorporating a pet homeopathic formula with ingredients homeopathic experts use to relieve joint pain, stiffness and swelling.

What is arthritis?

An inflammation of a body joint or its component tissues, accompanied by pain, soreness, and inflexibility in that area, which is basically a result of causes ranging from infection, distress, degenerative changes or metabolic disorders.

In simple words, affected joints are unable to move smoothly past one another.

In medical parlance, arthritis refers to a collection of more than 100 rheumatic diseases and conditions that can cause pain, stiffness and soreness in the joints. If left untreated, arthritis can cause irreversible damage to the joints.

What are the various forms of arthritis?

Arthritis can appear suddenly or gradually, and occurs in various forms, but osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are the two most common.

There are four basic types of arthritis:

1. Inflammatory arthritis - inflammation of tissues related to joints. Connective tissue diseases, crystal deposition diseases, infectious arthritis, and spondylitis are examples of inflammatory arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is the most common variety. Other types are Ankylosing spondylitis, Reiter’s syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

2. Degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis) - corrosion of the cartilage lining the joints and lessening of new bone formation underneath the cartilage. The disease is quite common in the latter part of life where the continued slow damage causes increasing disability.

3. Nonarticular rheumatism - sometimes called soft-tissue rheumatism, and includes conditions like tendonitis, bursitis, fibrositis. This condition is related to sleep disturbances or even muscular abnormalities.

4. Other diseases may also give rise to arthritis. There exist neurological, blood and endocrine related disorders giving rise to rheumatic diseases.

How to recognize arthritis?

Symptoms differ from person to person depending on his age, the affected area and the type of arthritis. The most common symptoms include:

§ Swelling in one or more joints

§ Stiffness around the joint that usually occurs in the early morning

§ Constant or recurring pain in a joint

§ Tenderness around a joint

§ Difficulty using or moving a joint normally

§ Redness in a joint accompanied by heat there

Other possible symptoms:

§ Occasional fever

§ Weight loss and fatigue

§ Breathing difficulty

§ Rashes and itching

Who all are at risk of arthritis?

Younger people have a relatively lower risk of having arthritis but still comprise a sizeable portion of affected people.

Prevalence is generally higher among women as compared to men, especially osteoarthritis. Arthritis is the leading cause of mobility limitation in women aged 45 years and above. So all you ladies, remember prevention is better than cure.

What are the common causes?

The causes of arthritis usually depend on the type of arthritis. Common causes include:

§ injury (leading to osteoarthritis),

§ irregular metabolism

§ hereditary

§ some infection

§ unknown reasons in case of rheumatoid arthritis

What treatment procedure to follow?

Early diagnosis and treatment helps……

The most common complication of arthritis is functional disability. However, do not get scared! General health upkeep, rest, and gradual treatment can avoid this situation.

There is no complete remedial treatment, only control through a combination of heat fomentation, massage, and supervised exercise. The various treatment options help manage pain and reduce deformity and disability.

A correct diagnosis of the type of arthritis is important before undergoing any drug therapy. Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis can be treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Do not be your own doctor. Remember, all medications can have side effects, so the dosage and duration of treatment should essentially be under trained medical supervision. Surgical treatment includes arthroscopic surgery and joint replacement.

Tips to control and prevent the condition:

§ Weight reduction accompanied by regular physical activity: Keep your weight under control, as it reduces the risk of getting arthritis, especially osteoarthritis.

§ Strengthen the muscles: through regular exercise – especially weight bearing exercise. It helps maintain physical mobility and slows the development of disability.

§ Prevent stress on a particular joint as well as injuries: Repetitive stress or injuries on any joint increases the risk of osteoarthritis.

What kind of diet regime need to be followed to take care of this condition:

Nutrition is an important aspect in the treatment of arthritis.

For a person suffering from arthritis, his diet should be rich in fruits and vegetables (flavonoid rich foods), especially those that are rich sources of anti-oxidants so as to protect against cellular and joint damage.

Try and avoid all processed foods, complex carbohydrates, including sugar and fruit juices. Increase intake of high fibre foods. Limit fat intake to a minimum.

An important aspect in reducing arthritis pain is elimination of any type of food sensitivity. Get a test for food sensitivity because there may be allergies involved.

Food supplements may be introduced. Anti-oxidants help prevent damage to the cartilage of the bone. Vitamin E slows down the breakdown of cartilage as well as stimulates the manufacture of cartilage components. Vitamin C is necessary for the manufacture of collagen, the major support protein of cartilage.

How does physical therapy help?

Physical therapy is very important in reestablishing joint harmony. Various physical therapy treatments include exercise, heat, cold, and diathermy(heat treatment using electricity); and are beneficial in increasing joint mobility and decreasing pain. Avoid physical activities that excessively put strain on the joints.

Some natural treatment options:

No medicine or drug can completely cure arthritis or slow its progression without causing side effects. But, you can help repair your joints as well as slow degeneration with natural treatment therapies.

Natural Solution: Arthcare Oil – An Anti-inflammatory Herbal massage oil.

Arthcare is anti-inflammatory herbal oil, which not only gives a relief from joint pains but also strengthens the bone tissues, the skeletal and the neuromuscular systems, giving comfortable movements of joints and muscles. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/arthcareoil.htm

Massage with the yellow wonder herb – turmeric. No question of any side effects, plus turmeric also acts as an anti-oxidant to help protect joints.

Ginger, an ayurveda herb, if consumed in small amounts on a regular basis can reduce symptoms and occurrence of rheumatoid arthritis.

Aromatherapy technique involves the use of extracted oil from flowers, plants and trees in combination with massage and steam inhalation – helps relaxation, pain relief.

Yoga involves a combination of breathing exercises and relaxation to help in blood circulation and movement of joints.

Osteopathy includes the manipulation of the body to restore normal action and decrease pain. It is not recommended for those suffering from osteoporosis.

Reflexology involves rubbing the feet and the palm of the hand to help progress the state of rest of the body, and also generate a warm sensation. This is an ideal method for stress management and overall health continuance; factors that cause arthritis.

So, come on get moving, and do not allow this ageless epidemic disease become a debilitating factor in your daily life.

Arthritis Knee Exercises Strengthen the Muscles That Support the Knee

Arthritis knee exercises are very important if one is experiencing arthritis in the knee joints. Exercise is one way to maintain a strong and healthy cartilage as it has the effect of strengthening the tendons and muscles that support the knee. However, not all exercises will help the person suffering from knee arthritis, as such; one must call an expert on arthritis knee exercise, because wrong exercise will just worsen the situation. Here are some knee exercises to help you in your arthritis problems.

The simplest way to exercise one’s knee is by sitting in a chair and letting your feet flat on the floor. It is important to know that when one doing this exercise, one must see to it that one’s thigh is parallel to the floor. The proper way of sitting can help the muscles and tendons surrounding the knee to relax and remove any stress accompanying it. One can put variations like pointing and moving one’s toes, slowly lifting the feet to make it parallel to the ground or raising the feet and doing a small circular motion.

Another simple exercise is by sitting on the ground while the legs are crossed. In this way, the muscles and tendons are stretched without you exerting any effort. The person may remain in this position for at least 30 seconds and then incorporate certain variations. One can slowly push his knee to the ground in order to put additional pressure on the muscles of the joints. It can be noticed that when the legs are crossed, one leg is on top of the other, hence; one should change the position of the legs and then apply pressure again.

Some complicated arthritis knee exercises include the quad set exercise, knee extension with leg lift, drake exercises, static hold exercise, straight leg raise, hamstring set exercise, and many more.

The quad set exercise is done to tighten the muscles of the thigh and the legs in order to strongly support the knee joints. This is made by lying down comfortably and tucking in the knee into the stomach. Be sure that the legs are parallel to the ground and the toes are pointed. Fold the knee for 10 seconds, and thereafter rest it for 5 seconds, repeat the process but make the tuck tighter.

The knee extension with leg lift is done lying down and putting an object under your heel that will raise your legs at least 3 inches above the ground. In this position, try to slowly lift the leg up and then slowly putting it down. Do this exercise by lifting only one leg at the time and the other leg is used as a support.

When doing any arthritis knee exercises, one must be sensitive of any pain that he may feel. If the pain becomes unbearable, immediately stop what you are doing and see a doctor. As stated, not all exercises are suitable to all knee arthritis problems, and the best way to know the applicable knee exercise program is to consult a doctor or an experienced health professional.

Top 7 Tips to Treat and Prevent Arthritis

Arthritis is basically a packaging problem. Your joints, remarkable and elaborate hinges, are cushioned by cartilage. They are held together with various other tissues, including muscles and tendons. Lubrication is in the form of some oily goop called synovial fluid, which is released by the synovial lining of the joints. If you have osteoarthritis, the kind that most frequently coincides with aging, the cartilage around the joints starts to thin down or disappear. That is not your fault. What’s more, it is not always preventable, either. The runner-up, rheumatoid arthritis, is far less common, more mysterious, and equally pain producing. Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory disease. Therefore, here are some ways that you can use to prevent such disease.

1.	Move These Joints

To keep the pain of arthritis from getting an even tighter grip on you, get yourself on an exercise program. If you are over 60, start with low-impact aerobic activities such as 20-minute walks or exercises in a swimming pool at least three or four times per week. Any aerobic exercise program should be matched to your physical capacity. If a person has been inactive for a period of time, then start with something like a five-minute walk in a couple of times per week, and then slowly start to increase your distance as you feel more comfortable.

2.	Pepper Yourself

You may not like hot peppers on your sandwich, but you might like hot-pepper cream for arthritis relief. Capsaicin cream, made from the active ingredient in hot peppers, has been shown in studies to ease arthritis pain when used regularly. You can buy this cream over the counter. Follow instructions on the label, wash your hands thoroughly after application, and keep this stuff away from your eyes and other mucous membranes. It can really burn.

3.	Ease The Burden

Arthritis gets worse more rapidly in overweight individuals. If you lose 5 to 10 pounds, it considerably lightens the load on all of your weight-bearing joints – hips, knees, ankles, and feet.

4.	Vary Your Terrain

Walking is always recommended but it is important to not get into a rut. If you walk the same exact path every day, then you are landing on the same part of your foot each and every day and you are putting stress on your knees and hips the exact same way every day. For the sake of interest as well as exercise, seek out new terrain like hills, fields, and pathways as well as flat road or sidewalk.

5.	Ask For Alternative Oils

If you are not a fish-eater, you should pay a visit to the nearest health food store. Look for either evening primrose oil, flaxseed oil, or fish oil. All contain the same omega-3 fatty acids found in cold-water fish. If you take one teaspoon of any of these each day, it may lightly ease some of the inflammatory aspects of arthritis. If you decide to take capsules, follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the label.

6.	Try A Cold Pack

If you have swelling, especially after any physical activity, put some ice with a thin towel wrapped around it on the area around the affected joint. Ice the area for 15 to 20 minutes after exercise to reduce the discomfort and also minimize the amount of swelling.

7.	Give Yourself A Hot Wax

A hot-wax treatment can provide soothing relief if your hands are aching from arthritis. The treatment is available at many hospitals, but it is less expensive to treat yourself at home. A professional therapist should instruct on its appropriate use before you try this at home. For a hot-wax treatment kit, call an orthopedic supply store to check availability. Heat the wax in the heating unit, apply it to your hands, and wrap them in plastic gloves for 10 minutes. You should feel some relief. The beauty of the at-home hot-wax treatment is that the wax can be reused for several weeks. Just be careful when you are using it around children.

Arthritis Cure With Herbal Way of Treatment Tips

Arthritis concern to a variety of diseases that affects the mucoskeletal system and particularly the joints. It has affected a wide number of people mainly those who are in their fifties and those who are affected by arthritis cannot do their normal every day routines anymore as they are already disabled by it. Arthritis is generally referred to as a single disease but in medical terms, it in fact refers to more than a hundred medical conditions.

The word arthritis in fact comes from the Greek word arthron which means joint and the Latin word itis which means problem of inflammation. So from the root words it can previously be implied that arthritis refers to inflammation of the joints.

The most common form of arthritis in which the old people all around us are suffering is osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis refers to the pain that is overall effect of the loss of cartilage in usually weight bearing joints such as the joints that are in the knees, the hips, and the spine.

Both men and women are totally affected by arthritis. It does not choose gender. So all of us are not exempted in having the leaning to have arthritis and therefore we should take good care of ourselves so as to be aware of what arthritis is that all about especially its symptoms.

The other common symptoms of arthritis are pain, inflammation, and disabled or limited function of the joints in the whole body. People who are affected by arthritis experience pain in that the affected areas which are more usually the knees, the hips, and the spine at the back. Inflammation refers to the swelling and redness associated of the joints that are affected and this can be felt through the warmth and tenderness of the joints. Other symptoms of arthritis are also body fatigue and weight loss. Due to the inflammation of the joints, the people affected by arthritis find themselves going through fatigue because of the pain and abnormalities that they feel. Weight loss is also inevitable that because the arthritis patient will find it hard to maintain their diet with the kind of pain they are going through.

So let us all be aware about arthritis and when we observe these symptoms, we cannot be ignorant about it anymore because we already know that it is probably arthritis already. It really does a lot of help to have at least an overview of what arthritis is all about and so how it affects people. And by the way, the kind of doctor who specializes in treating arthritis patients is that called a rheumatologist.

Manifestations of Arthritis

One of the most common conditions in the United States today is a debilitating inflammatory disease that affects our joints. It is estimated that there are over 100 different forms of this disease and over 40 million people suffer from one form or another.

Though typically thought to be an affliction of the aging, arthritis can affect anyone at any time, and with all of the different forms, each with their own symptoms, it could be hard to determine just what type of arthritis an individual is suffering from.

The signs and symptoms of arthritis are varied, though some of the first symptoms are familiar and easy to recognize. Symptoms such as general pain or swelling around the joints, an increased stiffness in the joints in the morning, a cracking sound in the knees when standing, and joints with a red appearance that feel warm to the touch are all signs of arthritis.

However, before you rush to purchase an over-the-counter arthritis treatment, you should talk to your doctor. Your doctor is the only one who will be able to tell you what form of arthritis you may have and how to treat it.

Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the most common forms of arthritis that plagues sufferers. It affects the joints and is a systemic disease that can affect other organs. Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms tend to disappear after sometime, but the problem is still there. The true cause of rheumatoid arthritis is presently unknown, though many suggest that things such as infections, fungi, or bacteria are the culprits. However, there are also those that believe that rheumatoid arthritis is hereditary. Painful and swollen joints are a common warning sign of rheumatoid arthritis, followed by muscle pain, extreme fatigue, redness and warmth at the joints, even a low grade fever and appetite loss.

Next to rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis is a common affliction, caused by breaking down of joint cartilage. Osteoarthritis commonly begins in one joint and typically only affects the one joint. It does not move to internal organs. Osteoarthritis commonly affects the knees, hips, hands, and spine. By the time the pain starts setting in for an osteoarthritis sufferer, the damage to the affected joint cartilage could be considerable.

Relieving pain from a form of arthritis can be as simple as over-the-counter or prescription medication. However, in the most severe cases, surgery may be necessary. Being overweight can also play a role in arthritis. Some physicians believe that a change in diet can ease the pain of arthritis, though there is a lot of debate on the topic. Regardless, you should speak to your doctor who can tell you just what form of arthritis you may have, and what treatment options may work best for you.

Natural Treatment for Arthritis Pain

Many of the processed foods consumed today, are lacking a necessary element: antioxidants. These antioxidants have for many years worked with our bodies to provide natural flushing of harmful toxins from our bodies. A lack of antioxidant intake, along with increased exposure to physical and mental stress has increased our susceptibility to diseases such as arthritis.

It is a very painful problem; you lose your mobility because of his problem. This difficulty can be diagnosed only if a few blood test and x ray is taken to confirm that you are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. The cause of this particular problem has not been discovered till today but there are a lot of suspicions about bacteria, virus and fungi being the major reason for this problem but none of these suspicions have been proved right.

Symptoms: – Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include joint swelling, pain, warmth and tenderness; red, puffy hands; fatigue, stiffness in the joints when you wake up; weight loss and fever. The smaller joints are usually affected first in the early stages of the disease, and you may notice problems with your ankles, feet, hands and wrists. Recognizing that there is a problem at this stage is important in slowing the progression of the disease.

It is only when the disease progresses that knees, elbows, hips, shoulders, and the jaw and neck become affected. As the disease progresses, about 25 percent of rheumatoid arthritis patients will develop rheumatoid nodules, small tissue lumps under the skin. The nodules are often found on the feet, knees, heels, elbows, hands and back of the scalp. Severe rheumatoid arthritis can permanently damage and disfigure the joints over the course of many years.

Natural Methods for Arthritis Treatments: -

Heat and Cold: – Since heat and/or cold is not recommended to alleviate symptoms associated with all types of arthritis, the decision whether to use it or not should be discussed with your doctor or physical therapist. If appropriate for use on your arthritis pain, it must be determined which kind of temperature treatment should be used. Moist heat such as a warm bath or shower or dry heat such as a heating pad and placed on affected joint for about 15 minutes may relieve the pain.

Joint Protection: – A splint or brace can be used to allow joints to rest and keep them from being used, which can exacerbate the condition and may lead to additional injury. As with many other treatments, your physician or physical therapist can make recommendations and possibly provide you with the brace.

Massage: – This method is associated with temporarily relieving one of the major symptoms associated with arthritis, joint pain, rather than treating the underlying cause, loss of cartilage. A massage therapist will lightly stroke and/or knead the painful muscle, which increases blood flow to the stressed area. It is important to realize that arthritic joints are very sensitive, so the massage therapist must be familiar with the disease and problems associated with the affected joints.

Exercise/Weight Reduction: – Stretching exercises, swimming, walking, low-impact aerobic exercise, and range-of-motion exercises may reduce joint pain and stiffness while increasing joint mobility. In addition to alleviating some symptoms, the weight loss associated with an exercise program is beneficial in relieving the stress of extra weight on weight-bearing joints, especially the hips and knees.

How Do You Diagnose Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a progressive, systemic, autoimmune disease that causes joint inflammation. At onset, small joints such as the hands, wrists, and feet tend to be involved more than large joints. Because it is a systemic disease RA can cause significant internal organ damage to areas such as the lungs, skin, blood-producing organs, heart, and eyes.

More than 2 million Americans are affected by RA.

It is critical to make the diagnosis of RA as quickly as possible in order to prevent damage to both joints as well as internal organs.

The traditional criteria for establishing the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis are the American College of Rheumatology criteria:

1.Morning stiffness in and around joints, lasting at least I hour before maximal improvement.

2.Arthritis of 3 or more joint areas simultaneously with soft tissue swelling observed by a physician. The possible areas include the fingers, knuckles, wrsits, elbows, ankles, knees, and feet.

3.Arthritis affecting the hand joints with at least 1 area swollen in a wrist, knuckle or finger.

4.Symmetric arthritis with simultaneous involvement of the same joint areas on both sides of the body (bilateral involvement of the fingers, knuckles, or feet is acceptable without absolute symmetry.

5.Rheumatoid nodules: Subcutaneous nodules over bony prominences, or extensor surfaces, or near joints, observed by a physician.

6.Serum rheumatoid factor: Abnormal amounts of serum rheumatoid factor by any method for which the result has been positive in less than 5 per cent of control subjects.

7.Radiographic (X-ray) changes: Typical of rheumatoid arthritis on x-rays of the hands, wrists. Must include erosions or demineralization in or near involved joints.

For classification purposes, a patient must satisfy at least 4 of the 7 criteria. Criteria 1 through 4 must have been present for at least 6 weeks. Patients with 2 clinical diagnoses are not excluded. While these criteria are fine for standardization purposes when doing research to ensure uniformity, they are not meant to be necessarily followed rigidly in a clinic setting.

More recently, the use of assays such as the anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) assay has provided a more specific method for identifying patients whose arthritis symptoms will lead to RA.

In a recent published study, Japanese researchers found that the “combination of a positive rheumatoid factor, elevated C-reactive protein, swollen joints, and a positive anti-CCP was highly specific and accurate; it is easy to use for physicians and thus beneficial to patients” (Yamane T, et al. Journal of Rheumatology, January, 2008).

As a practicing rheumatologist, I find this article to be useful in that it confirms what many of us here in the United States have also found to be true. The diagnosis of RA, by all means, is not necessarily easy.

Yet, making the diagnosis is critical to initiating aggressive therapy. What is very important to remember is that today, making the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis is not necessarily a bad thing for a patient. Newer biologic drugs have made the “putting a patient into remission” more of a likely scenario than not.

The data from the Japanese study supports a simple yet direct method for making the diagnosis quickly.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis can also cause inflammation of the tissue around the joints, as well as in other organs in the body. Autoimmune diseases are illnesses that occur when the body tissues are mistakenly attacked by its own immune system.

Rheumatoid arthritis does not just affect the joints. Tendons are like ropes which run inside lubricated tubes. The lubricating system is very similar to that in the joints themselves, so it is not surprising that tendons can also be affected by rheumatoid arthritis. In a few people, other parts of the body such as the lungs and the blood vessels may become inflamed.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, inflammatory autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to attack the joints. It is a disabling and painful inflammatory condition, which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and muscles

Acupunture – It is based on the theory that inserting hair-fine needles along certain energy lines can help stimulate energy flow. This can therefore help in reducing pain.

Alexander technique – It involves analyzing whole body patterns, rather then a certain part of the body which contains the symptom. It is designed to help us maneuver in a better way and eliminate tension to give a greater effect during old age.

Anakinra is another biologic treatment that is used to treat moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis. Anakinra works by binding to a cell messenger protein (IL-1, a proinflammation cytokine). Anakinra is injected under the skin daily. Anakinra can be used alone or with other DMARDs. The response rate of anakinra does not seem to be as high as with other biologic medications.

Reflexology has been an ancient technique used by the early Egyptians and Chinese. It involves massage to the feet and the palm of the hand to help improve the state of the rest of the body. When massage will be applied to the feet or palm of the hand, it will generate a warm and comforting sensation. This is an ideal method for stress management and overall health maintenance; factors that cause arthritis.

Alexander technique involves analyzing whole body patterns, rather then a certain part of the body which contains the symptom. It is a way of teaching improved stance to help people stand and move more efficiently. It is designed to help us maneuver in a better way and eliminate tension which is responsible for many ailments in the body which rambles on to give a greater effect during old age.

Chiropractic therapy – It has long been used to give relief from symptoms of arthritis. Homeopathy has its roots in history. Developed in the 18 century, it’s a system of remedies based on the belief that taking tiny amount of natural substances to stimulate body own defenses against arthritis. Osteopathy is a method to treat arthritis which includes the manipulation of the body to restore normal action and decrease pain.

Can A Natural Diet Relieve Arthritis Pain?

I finally found relief from arthritis pain, naturally, and you can do it too. It was just a few years ago that I accidentally discovered how to get rid of arthritis pain, naturally, with no conventional arthritis treatment.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis; when people refer to arthritis they usually mean osteoarthritis. The pain in arthritis can be mild, moderate or severe. Sometimes arthritis symptoms can occur in the wrist, elbows, shoulders, and jaw but generally you don’t find it there.

The synovium is a membrane that surrounds the entire joint; it is filled with synovial fluid, a lubricating liquid that supplies nutrients and oxygen to the cartilage. Collagen is the essential protein that is found in cartilage; it forms a mesh to give support and flexibility to the joints. Proteoglycans are the large molecules that help to make up cartilage; they bond to water, which ensures the high-fluid content in the cartilage.

Sometimes injuries can be the start of the arthritic disease process; osteoarthritis can develop years later after a single traumatic injury to a joint or near a joint. When chondrocytes, which are the cells that make up cartilage age, they lose their ability to make repairs and produce more cartilage; this process may play an important part in the development and progression of osteoarthritis. Researchers report a higher incidence of osteoarthritis between parents and children and between siblings rather than husbands and wives.

One dietary natural treatment method involves avoiding all inflammatory foods. Make all-fruit smoothies using a base of two bananas, add a cup of frozen or fresh blueberries and mango chunks or substitute any other fruit and add an energy boost of two tablespoons of organic virgin coconut oil if you like; add one or two leaves of kale for even more super nutrition. Many arthritis sufferers who have changed their diets significantly have noticed major and even total improvement.

Many people have told me that going off dairy products and foods containing gluten, like wheat especially, relieved them of arthritis pain entirely. If arthritis is affecting your weight-bearing joints, keeping your weight within a normal range is important to get rid of any arthritis symptoms. Some of the foods and beverages to avoid that are inflammatory are: caffeine, salt, sugar, meat, dairy products, additives, soft drinks, white flour, white rice, alcoholic beverages, fast food, processed vegetable oils, and all refined, packaged and processed food.

Some people swear by a morning drink of pure filtered heated water with a teaspoon or so of raw apple cider vinegar (like Bragg’s) and honey to keep them free of arthritis pain but vinegar is too harsh for many. If you’re not already doing so, make a big effort to change your diet for the better.

Some of the supplements commonly reported for relieving arthritis pain (and I don’t know if any of these work) are: cherry powder, glucosamine, chondroitin, bromelain, grapeseed extract, omega-3 and omega-6, cod liver oil, manganese ascorbate, MSM, boron, niacinamide, pantothenic acid, vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E. For a natural approach and for natural treatment for arthritis make an appointment with a naturopathic doctor, called a naturopath; ask around for referrals in your area.

Make sure to exercise all your affected joints every day, to keep them flexible. Important exercises for arthritis include: range-of-motion exercises, isometric exercise, and some weight-bearing exercises. At bedtime you can try putting on a pair of stretch gloves to help reduce the pain and swelling in your fingers if you have arthritic hands. A good exercise routine is important to beat arthritis and keeping arthritis pain at bay; keep on moving.

Your body has 147 different joints in motion every day of your life; keep them moving! Yes, whatever you do, keep moving; don’t sit when you can stand, don’t stand when you can walk or walk in place. To be on the safe side always check with your doctor before starting or changing any exercise program.

At the very least, understand what the side effects and adverse reactions are for any arthritis medication you take; one rule of thumb is – don’t take any medication that has been on the market for less than five years. For conventional treatment of arthritis – if you do choose to take drugs or medications, be careful, read the labels thoroughly and talk to your pharmacist about side effects and adverse reactions; make sure you know the name of them and if they’ll react with any other medication you’re taking. Once you become completely informed about arthritis you’ll be able to plan an arthritis treatment program, natural or conventional or a combination.

Changing your diet to lots of raw fruits and raw veggies, like I did, can turn your arthritis pain around almost overnight. More and more doctors are investigating the benefits of natural arthritis treatments and alternative therapies and most don’t object to their patients trying them. Relief of your arthritis pain and symptoms is the ultimate goal – understanding arthritis and arthritis treatments is a good way to get there.
